Description: Perfect for experienced yogis who want to infuse their practice with inspiration and knowledge from the spirit of Nepal. Daily meditation and yoga will anchor a robust exploration of Nepali and Tibetan history, culture and philosophy.

Cost: $2890 USD

Includes: accommodations, depending on the retreat, 3 vegetarian meals per day on most days, bottled water and tea/coffee at meal times, yoga and meditation sessions, scheduled excursions to pilgrimage sites, knowledgeable guides and teachers, all entrance fees, land transportation within Nepal, and airport transfers.

NOT included in cost:  Air fare to and from Kathmandu, airport or departure taxes not included in your air ticket, visa fees ($25), additional hotel nights before or after scheduled program dates, unscheduled activities and excursions, soft drinks, alcohol and espresso drinks, phone calls, massage services, shopping, laundry or other personal expenses, additional meals, drinks and snacks, travel insurance, trekking extensions, or single supplements ($400 depending upon availability).

The Hotel Vajra is an authentic Newari-style hotel with some Tibetan touches. The ceiling frescos of the Great Pagoda Room and pagoda bar are painted by Rinchen Norbu, the great Tibetan Master and his associates. Wall frescos in the restaurant are painted by Bimal Moktan, the outstanding Tamang Painter. These are some of the features you will discover in Hotel Vajra, where you'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay.


At the Siddhi Manakamana Hotel, you’ll rise to the sound of monastery horns. Being located just steps from the Boudhanath Stupa, it offers comfortable rooms, each with its own balcony opening out to a pleasant garden.


The Namo Buddha Resort offers a taste of the simple life in the Nepali countryside. Comprised of several small, beautifully built cottages, this one-of-a-kind resort is rich in traditional Nepali style. All cottages feature, adobe walls, decorative niches, stone roofs, colorful textiles and lots of gorgeous woodwork. On a clear morning, wake up to panoramic views of the Himalaya, including the Annapurna and Khumbu mountain ranges.

Instructor Name and Bio: Awakening to Freedom: Hawah is an artist, author, educator, and non-profit leader. He tours internationally facilitating interactive workshops, performing poetry, and teaching yoga. He currently holds certifications in both Jivamukti and Sivananda Yoga traditions and has spent the past 13 years learning from other yoga schools as well including Ashtanga Yoga with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, Vinyasa Flow, & Iyengar Yoga. Hawah has authored 4 books, produced 3 documentary films and 2 musical CDs; he is the creator/editor of “The Poetry of Yoga” book anthology and co-founder of One Common Unity, a non-profit organization that inspires a culture of non-violence through arts and music. Hawah's classes are dynamic and shamanic; a journey integrating his knowledge of ancient yoga forms with parallel modalities found in other cultures & traditions. Through his playful nature and compassionate heart, students are challenged to stretch out of the physical envelope and into the spiritual freedom of awakening.

 

 


Sample Daily Schedule: Yoga Nepal combines practice, pilgrimage and culture immersion. So our days are scheduled to perfectly balance yoga and meditation classes, visit to pilgrimage and holy sites, lectures on Nepal and Buddhism, dharma talks and teachings, and hiking through local villages. Every day is then different, yet they all start with yoga and/or meditation practice.


Are Non-Yoga partners welcome: Yes.


FOOD: what is included and what type of food is it: Nearly all of your meals are included in the cost of the trip. Yoga Nepal provides a vegetarian menu, and you'll also have a couple of chances to go explore Kathmandu's culinary offerings on your own. Kathmandu is well-known for its diversity of food options, and the hotels and restaurants here serve up everything from traditional Nepali and Newari food to Tibetan, Indian, and other dishes from around the world.

Do they serve alcohol at this retreat: Participants can order drinks at the venues we eat as well as at the hotels and resort.

Instructions for getting there: Several airlines offer service to Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. We'll pick you up from the airport and take care of the rest.
